Beware Fraudulent Emails
A fraudulent email pretends to be from a well-known company and asks unsuspecting Internet users for personal information such as their credit card number or account passwords. These deceptive emails are called "spoof" or "phishing emails". They fake the appearance of a popular website or company in an attempt to commit identify theft and are occurring more and more frequently throughout the online community.
A spoof email may include a forged email address in the "From" field - this field is easily altered so do not be taken in by an email address that appears to be genuine.
Be assured that Stella & Rose's Books will NEVER ask you to provide or update such details by clicking on a link provided in an email or file attachment. Such information should only be submitted when registering as a new customer on the Stella & Rose's Books website or completing an order on the Stella & Rose's Books website via our secure web pages.
If you receive a spoof e-mail in which you are asked to confirm or provide details such as your credit card number or account password simply disregard the request as it will not have been sent by Stella & Rose's Books.
While the spoof emails are deceptive in appearance they do contain content which reveals them as fake.
What to watch out for:
1. Generic salutations. Many spoof emails begin with a general greeting such as "Dear Stellabooks Member"
or "Dear User"
2. A threat. Many of these emails threaten that your account will be closed or suspended or your membership
will be cancelled if you do not take urgent action. The action required is to divulge your personal information.
3. A notification. You may be informed that your account has been misused, your user profile is out of date or
your account has been temporarily suspended. Again you are instructed to take action by providing personal
information.
4. Attachments. Many spoof emails come with instructions to open an attachment. Do not open any
attachments which you are not expecting.
5. A congratulatory message - for example that you have successfully updated your password or account
details.
6. Misspellings and bad grammar. Spoof emails often contain misspellings, incorrect grammar, missing
words, and gaps in logic. Mistakes also help fraudsters avoid spam filters.
If you receive any messages similar to those described above they will not have been sent by Stella & Rose's Books so you may ignore and delete them.
